About the Event
SADLY, WE HAVE HAD TO POSTPONE THIS EVENT BECAUSE THE TEMPLE HAS CEASED VISITOR TOURS TO PREVENT SPREAD OF CORONAVIRUS. WE WILL RE-ARRANGE THIS TRIP FOR LATER IN THE YEAR.
This event is open to all members - there are 20 spaces so please book early. IF YOU CAN NO LONGER MAKE IT, PLEASE CHANGE YOUR RSVP SO THAT ANOTHER MEMBER CAN TAKE YOUR PLACE.
Join us for a trip to BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir - the beautiful Hindu Temple in Neasden. You can find out more about this incredible place on their website at http://londonmandir.baps.org/. Hinduism is considered the oldest living father and you will have the opportunity to learn more about it, see traditional art and architecture and witness the midday arti ceremony.
ITINERARY
We will set off from Surbiton just before 9am. By public transport, it is approx 1hr20mins by train, tube and a bus with a max 10 min walk. We have asked for a quote for a mini-bus and will have pricing information soon - please check back for more information.
10.20am - Arrival at the Temple.
10.30am - Our tour starts and includes:
- Welcome and Introductory Address
- Short History of the Mandir Film
- Understanding Hinduism Exhibition
- Guided Tour, including Darshan (viewing of sacred images)
- Arti Ceremony
- Shop
1.00pm - Lunch at Shayona Restaurant (entrance within Mandir carpark). Join us for lunch at this popular vegetarian Indian restaurant. A lunch menu can be found on their website at http://www.shayonarestaurants.com/ .
Please note:
No food/drink may be taken onto the premises
Bags must be deposited into the Baggage Cabin in the car park. Palm-sized purses, wallets and pens/paper/medical items are allowed.
A strict dress code applies - shoulders and upper arms, chest/neck must be covered and legs must be covered past the knees.
The upper santum in the Mandir is a quiet zone and must be respected.
We will be seated in the area for women during the Arti ceremo
COST
The costs are as follows:
Travel - depending on public transport or shared minibus. We will be able to provide further costs very soon.
Tour - £2 per person, £1.50 for senior citizens. Pay in advance to Kelly Woods at a meeting/sub group.
Lunch - pay for your own at Shayona Restaurant from the A la Carte menu.
